What are the causes of brain injury?
Video Transcription:
There are many things that can cause a brain injury. The most common causes of brain injury are blows to the head, for example. This can be like a gunshot wound or trauma to the head.
Another form of brain injury can occur when the brain has been shaken inside the skull. For example, a car accident situation where the head is jolted forwards and backwards suddenly, or like an infant who’s been shaken violently.
Another form of brain injury can occur whenever the brain has been deprived of oxygen. This can occur because of a lack of circulation or something that interferes with the body’s ability to get oxygen; for example, a baby prior to birth or during delivery or shortly after birth.
The other common form of brain injury occurs when there’s been damage to the brain in form of a brain bleed or a clot such as a stroke that causes brain damage to the person.
