$6 Million Recovery in Trailer Arson
We represented three of several Guatemalan immigrants living in a small and dilapidated trailer camp in Immokalee. Tragically, the trailer was fire bombed by an arsonist, resulting in three people dying and others receiving serious burns. We worked with the Collier County Sheriff’s Department, homicide detectives, utilized a fire reconstruction expert, and Mr. Meyers went door-to-door in the trailer camp to determine exactly what happened.
We discovered that the arsonist had twice attempted to fire bomb the trailer unsuccessfully. Despite these attempts, the landlord provided no security. Additionally, the landlord–in violation of local ordinances– placed chicken wire over the windows for “security measures,” which prevented two children from escaping the inferno. The $6,000,000 was the total amount of insurance covering the trailer.
