$1,200,000 Recovery Against an Orlando Hospital and Neonatologist of Seriously Brain-Damaged Infant Girl

The parents of this infant girl came to Mr. Meyers after the case was reviewed by three prominent plaintiffs’ firms in Palm Beach County.  The three lawyers who reviewed and rejected the case were all past-Presidents of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers.  The infant girl in this case was born prematurely and weighed less than two pounds.  Unfortunately, she was born with a condition known as hypoxic ischemic peri-ventricular leukomalacia, a condition in which the vascularization in her brain was not sufficient to deliver adequate oxygen.

The case was very difficult because of the child’s extreme prematurity and multiple medical complications.  After consulting with two neonatology experts, who were in addition to three prior neonatologists who reviewed and rejected the case with the previous law firms, Mr. Meyers found a neonatologist in Orange County, California who was able to determine that the child was not adequately oxygenated in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.  After extensive litigation, and just a few weeks before trial, the defendants paid $1,200,000 to resolve this case.
