$1 million for “false negative” GBS test
When our client was pregnant with her baby daughter, the OB/GYN physician performed a prenatal GBS screening test with a negative result; however, the baby contracted GBS at the time of birth and suffered “GBS meningitis.” After searching for a medical malpractice attorney throughout Florida – who all declined to represent this new mother and baby – Marjorie Chalfant agreed to investigate this difficult case to prove malpractice had occurred. Careful review and analysis of the medical records revealed the GBS screening test was not performed properly, and the specimen was not handled and tested properly at the laboratory. Further, medical records showed that the mother and baby had concerning signs and symptoms after labor and delivery that were ignored by the physicians and hospital nursing staff.
